How To Get Out of Your Own Way

All of us have the potential to be great. We have the opportunity to do things that are beyond our imagination. The possibilities are endless if we just we just focus and believe. We all have gifts that we are born with, but most people never figure out what their gift is. Life starts and we go into survival mode searching for ways to earn money to attain the basic necessities for day to day living. So why is this? What things are holding us back from the life that we want? And what can we do to overcome these obstacles? How do we get out of own way?

  1. Procrastination. This is probably the biggest obstacle in my life. We all put off things that we need to do today for tomorrow. It could be a task that is difficult, mundane or just something that we just don’t like. Then, at the last minute, we force ourselves to do it and we know in our hearts that it was not our best effort or work. And this is a pattern that we continue until we decide to solve this problem. We do enough just to get by and then we chastise ourselves knowing we could have done better.

The Solution: You can do a number of things to combat this. First, try to do the hard things first, if possible. That way you will have a feeling of accomplishment, and you will be ready to conquer other tasks. Second, break down tasks into micro tasks where you do a little bit at a time until they are complete. This way, there is always forward progress and movement toward completion.
